A lightweight backcountry ski with big mountain performance, the Voile Asylum skis scale up the dimensions of the Voile Insane to improve float and lateral stability in and on soft and hard snow. The Asylum is as much at home inside the ski area as in the backcountry. Available with 4-hole inserts for mounting telemark bindings and flat deck platform for mounting AT bindings.

    My new favorite ski |
01/04/2010 - by Alan Lambert from Lancaster, NH US | The first time on my new Asylums was yesterday morning on AM trail check at Wildcat Mtn, NH. We had 10 inches of new snow over about another 10 from the past couple of days on the lower mountain. Upper mountain was a combination of wind scoured porcelain and deep drifted snow. This was the ski to be on. They have great flotation in deep powder, but with a side-cut I was able to hold an edge on the bomb proof stuff and make quick turns in our trees. Oh, and they cruise through crud. I can't wait to use them in the Wasatch. |
    Asylums rock JP |
11/15/2009 - by Aaron Blake from Hood River, OR US | Hello to the voile crew, wanted to write and let you know how much I love my Asylums; This spring I spent 2 months skiing in Japan, I brought 3 pairs of skis and wound up only using the Asylums the whole trip. They rocked it all, from waist deep bc pow to big icy mountaineering lines. Bottom line is that they are lighter, stiffer, and vastly more fun than any other pair of fatties that I have ever owned (trust me, I have to many pairs), and given my distaste for lift-serve goat shows I really dig the light weight. On a zero emissions ski-mountaineering trip to Hokkaido I got into some gnarly terrain on Mount Yotezan with serious consistences and no arrest gear, and I couldn't believe that the Asylum's edges didn't blow out - lift-sever powder noodles would probably have wrecked me but the Asylum's stiffer caps got me through. Thanks again! |

09/09/2009 - by Backcountry Magazine from www.backcountrymagazine.com | "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner," wrote one tester, her blood sugar presumably running low. But Voile's second year, aspen-cored, USA-made fattie garnered attention again for featherweight packaging and big mountain performance. "Surprisingly nimble, floaty, a great Utah touring ski, " confessed a Little Cottonwood plank connoisseur. But a Vermont tester said, " They got squirrelly edge to edge on any kind of harder snow." Other testers expressed a desire for less sidecut. Skiers doled out high scores in mid-to-long radius turns and moderate speeds, but dampness was a consistent weakness. Still, for bc powder touring the Asylum is, "Incredibly light and balanced; flickable and smearable, " said one tester. "Ate up the white like an addict." |

How do you choose which mounting platform?
Buy the Flat Deck if mounting a Telemark binding or Alpine touring binding.
Buy the 4-hole Inserts if mounting a Telemark binding. (Exception! Dynafit AT binding mount using
Voile TLT adapter plate.) We include a set M5 x 18mm screws for mounting Voile telemark bindings.
Flat Deck
Voile officially endorses mounting our Flat Deck model skis with Telemark Bindings or Alpine Touring Bindings. Flat Deck skis have a robust mounting plate to retain both types of bindings.
|
4-Hole Inserts
Mount only Telmark Bindings to skis with 4-Hole Inserts, there is not a mounting plate for Alpine Touring Bindings.
